Amy + John

FROM SILENT DISCO TO “ACTION” WEDDING

Austin Love Stories

Although Amy and John had never met, their mutual friend knew the possibilities if she invited them both to a night out at a silent disco. Less than a year later, they were engaged.

With friends and family scattered across the country, the wedding destination was up for grabs. Fortunately, this pair’s love for great music and great food led them to Austin “We knew it would be a fun spot for all our guests,” explains Amy. Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt was their venue choice for the unique musical ambience and friendly, welcoming staff.

The wedding ceremony in HVZ's elegant Lady Bird Ballroom, custom-decorated with a floral draped arch, was followed by cocktail hour on the second floor, and then back to Lady Bird for the reception. Amy and John wanted to encourage maximum dancing, eating and mingling. HVZ obliged with open seating and “action stations” for the food — a huge hit.

The fun-loving duo spent their wedding weekend in a cushy HVZ suite overlooking Austin. They are continuing their adventure together in San Francisco.

Amy’s sister made a charm that she tied onto her bouquet with a handkerchief belonging to her father, who passed away five years ago.

“The hotel is unique, warm, and incorporates all the best aspects of Austin.”

“All of our interactions with HVZ leading up to the day were above and beyond.”

To encourage mingling, Amy and John chose a non-traditional reception set-up, with open seating and culinary “action stations” — “a huge hit,” Amy says. Custom ice cream sandwiches were among the delicious desserts served.
